Charities and community projects that make a positive difference can once again apply for grants from John Blenkiron & Sons Funeral Directors to support their valuable work.
Earlier this year, the John Blenkiron & Sons Community Fund reopened with a £10,000 pot ready to award to local charities based within three miles of John Blenkiron & Sons Funeral Directors funeral homes in Queens Road, Richmond, Galgate, Barnard Castle and Hildyard Row, Catterick.
The most recent successful applicants were the Richmond and Dales Talking Newspaper which provides free recordings of local newspapers for people who have lost their sight, the Richmond Area Motorcycle Project, who help teenagers learn to safely road motorbikes off-road, and the Macroom Castle Demesnes Parkrun in Barnard Castle.
Business Principal James Blenkiron said: “These are three fantastic, but also completely different groups, and the beauty of the Community Fund is being able to support them all.
“From support for visually impaired people, an exciting project for young people and a popular community run, we hope these grants will have an impact on lots of people in our communities.
“I hope we can have an ongoing relationship with all three of them in the future.
“I’d urge any other local charities and good causes to get in touch during this round of applications – we would love to hear from you.”
Pamela Holland, Treasurer of the Richmond and Dales Talking Newspaper said: “We are so grateful for this grant, which will enable us to widen our methods of delivering the talking newspaper.
“At present, most of our listeners use CDs, but the grant will enable us to offer alternatives like memory sticks and sound boxes.”
The John Blenkiron & Sons Community Fund has now reopened with grants available to fund local activities which improve the quality of life of residents and the wider community.
Projects must align with one of more of the fund’s four categories – Health, Education, Employment Opportunities and Poverty and Social Deprivation.
This is the second of three application cycles, with the final one set to open in September.
