Funeral Directors supported community with share of £20,000 community fund

In a heart-warming initiative, John Blenkiron & Sons Funeral Directors have generously donated nearly £20,000 to various local charities through their inaugural Community Fund. Launched earlier this year, the fund has supported over a dozen organisations within a three-mile radius of the funeral home’s branches in Richmond, Barnard Castle, and Catterick.

Recent beneficiaries include Richmond Town Football Club and its under 16 girls’ team, receiving £1,000 for new kit and equipment. Richmond Bowls Club was awarded £800 to fund a new water tank for their green. The Community Fund has also backed diverse causes such as Friends of Lazer Cheer, Richmondshire Museum, and Colburn Community Sports Centre.

Rebekah Elliott, Senior Funeral Director and fund coordinator, expressed her joy at presenting cheques to these deserving recipients, emphasising the incredible impact these grants will have on the local community. She expressed enthusiasm for continuing to build relationships with these organisations.

James Blenkiron, Business Principal of the Funeral Directors established by his father in 1968, shared his pride in the initiative. He noted that his father would have been proud of the Community Fund’s success, highlighting the rewarding experience of giving back to the community in his father’s name. The initiative has proven to be a meaningful way for the Funeral Directors to contribute to the well-being of their local community.
