Boost for community projects in final funding round from local funeral directors

Community groups making a positive difference in Catterick and Richmond have benefited from vital support, thanks to grants awarded through the John Blenkiron & Sons Funeral Services Community Fund.

Local organisations based close to John Blenkiron & Sons Funeral Services’ branches were invited to apply for the funeral directors’ third and final round of grants in their funding cycle. In its last round of grants, a total of £3,333 was awarded to the following community projects:

Richmond Yorkshire Community Interest Company – awarded £2,353 for its Richmond Bike Park project, which aims to provide a safe, high-quality cycling space for the local community.

Catterick Whizz Kidz – awarded £980 towards its youth club-style community initiative, providing activities and a safe social space for children.

James Blenkiron, Business Principal at John Blenkiron & Sons Funeral Services, said: “We are incredibly proud to support such meaningful projects in our local communities. Both organisations are doing wonderful work to improve facilities for children and adults, and it has been our absolute privilege to help them continue making a difference.”

The Community Fund has supported local activities that enhance the quality of life for residents living within a three-mile radius of the funeral home’s branches in Richmond, Barnard Castle, Catterick and Reeth. Projects had to align with one or more of the fund’s four categories: Health, Education, Employment Opportunities, and Poverty and Social Deprivation.

Previous grants awarded last summer totalling £3,333 went to: the Parish of Easby, Skeeby and Brompton on Swale to support its Little Footsteps group for children and families; Richmondshire RUFC for its Over 50s Back to Rugby project promoting active lifestyles; Richmond and Catterick Group Riding for the Disabled for specialist equipment to support therapeutic riding; Reeth and District Gazette to help sustain its local news service; and e50K CIC for its Bramble Woods Swap Shop, a community reuse initiative.
