We’re proud to be supporting inspiring charities, local sports teams, and community groups across Richmondshire through the latest round of grants from our John Blenkiron & Sons Community Fund.
We’re now welcoming applications for the third and final round of funding, which will focus on supporting community groups located within three miles of our funeral homes in Richmond, Barnard Castle, Catterick, and Reeth. It’s a meaningful way for us to give back to the communities we serve and help strengthen the incredible work being done locally.
In July, grants were awarded to five organisations for the fund’s second round:
• The Parish of Easby, Skeeby and Brompton on Swale was given £500 for its Little Footsteps group, which helps children and families through early years activities.
• Richmondshire RUFC received £500 for its Over 50s back to rugby project, encouraging older people to stay active.
• Richmond and Catterick Group Riding for the Disabled was awarded £910 for specialist equipment to provide therapeutic benefits to disabled riders.
• Reeth and District Gazette was given £350 to support the continuation of its local news service.
• e50K CIC received £1,073 to fund the Bramble Woods Swap Shop, a community reuse initiative.
James Blenkiron, Business Principal at John Blenkiron & Sons Funeral Directors said: “It’s brilliant to be able to support the work of dedicated groups doing amazing things to help residents and the wider community each and every day. These grants highlight the wonderful variety of projects happening on our doorstep – from children’s groups and disability support to local sports and environmental initiatives.”
“It’s been so inspiring to see how each of these organisations is making a difference in people’s lives, and we are proud to support them through the fund.”
James explained: “One of our worthy recipients, Richmondshire RUFC, is using their grant to buy essential equipment for a fantastic project aimed at improving the health, fitness and wellbeing of adults aged 50 and over. Through Walking T1 Rugby – a non-contact version of the game involving any number of players – they’re giving people the chance to stay active outdoors, try rugby in a different way, make friends, and most importantly, enjoy themselves!”
Earlier this year, the fund also supported the Richmond and Dales Talking Newspaper, which provides recordings of local papers for people with sight loss, the Richmond Area Motorcycle Project, which helps teenagers learn to safely ride off-road, and the Barnard Castle Demesnes Parkrun.
James added: “Through the community fund, we’ve had the chance to connect with so many wonderful groups, and it’s been a real privilege to learn about the incredible work they do. We’re now opening applications for our third and final round, and we’d love to hear from any local charities or community groups who could benefit.”
Grants are available to fund local activities which improve the quality of life of residents and the wider community.
John Blenkiron & Sons Funeral Directors welcomes projects that connect with one or more of the fund’s four themes: Health, Education, Employment Opportunities, and tackling Poverty and Social Deprivation. The deadline for applications is October 27 at 12 noon.
